Course Information
Description An exploration of sound synthesis. Includes additive, subtractive, and modulation-based synthesizers.
Prerequisites None.
Learning Outcomes Explain concepts relevant to additive, subtractive, and modulation-based synthesis;give examples of standard components of synthesizers.
Core Objectives
Program Student Learning Outcomes • Demonstrate basic proficiency in creating original music and audio that supports the visual
narrative.
• Demonstrate basic proficiency in short-form video production & editing, media delivery formats,
and audiovisual workflow.
• Recognize and observe professional best practices in the audiovisual field, including the various
roles in film, audio engineering, and media.
• Produce a final portfolio and resume suitable for entry-level employment in the audiovisual field.
Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

The class will utilize the Digital Audio Workstation program(s) and their midi-controllers made available to the students as course materials.

Week 13-16: FINAL

Short Piece - PROJECT (duration 24-36 measures of material - any genre)

Medium Piece - PROJECT (duration 2-4 minutes - subject matter is in response to or inspired by another piece of art or subject matter)

FINAL (choose from the following):
A. Compose or Produce a soundtrack for 2 minutes of film. Film must meet instructor approval.
B. Compose or Produce a work from 3-5 minutes (any genre).
C. Compose or Produce a work of 100% original combination patch sounds for 2-4 minutes (any genre).
Final Exam Date November 15, 2021 - 11:0 AM   Through  December 8, 2021 - 11:0 AM
Grading Scale 90 - 100 = A 80 - 89 = B 70 - 79 = C 60 - 69 = D Below 59 = F
